The Story

A new home built around the lake.

The owners had a Lake Washington lot with a once-in-a-lifetime view. The brief was to build a brand-new custom home that would put that view at the center of how the house lives. Floor-to-ceiling sliders in the great room. A roof line that points directly at the lake. A back deck that becomes a second living room every summer.

This is a full new-construction build by MNBE. New foundation, new framing, new roof, new windows, new mechanicals, new everything. The site work and structural shell were completed in stages over the past several months. The exterior shell, roof, and siding are done. The interior is currently in the finish phase.

Right now: drywall is hung, mudded, and getting painted. Trim and millwork are queued up next. The kitchen cabinetry and the bathrooms are the last big interior installs ahead of handover. The cantilevered back deck is built and waiting on cable-rail unwrap and final stain.

Aaron supervised the project personally from the foundation pour. Final reveal photos will replace the placeholders below as soon as the interior wraps.

The reveal section below uses placeholders for the rooms still being finished. The exterior and the great room are real photos from the actual jobsite.

The Build · Chronological

From foundation to finish phase.

Twelve stages from the rebar grid to the cantilevered back deck. Every photo from the actual job site. The chronology stops mid-finish because that is where we currently are.

  1. Slab prep + rebar grid
    Stage 01

    Slab prep + rebar grid

Rigid foam insulation board taped down with rebar grid laid out across the foundation footprint. Mechanical sleeves stubbing through. Pre-pour territory.

  2. Concrete pour day
    Stage 02

    Concrete pour day

Crew placing the concrete pour over the rebar mat, working the line by hand. The slab for the new home gets locked in.

  3. First wall posts on the foundation
    Stage 03

First wall posts on the foundation

First wall posts stand on the new foundation with the lake horizon already visible past the future window line. The view is the design driver and we framed for it from day one.

  4. Walls go vertical
    Stage 04

    Walls go vertical

Floor deck is down, the first exterior walls are going vertical, and fresh OSB sheathing starts taking shape. The home now has a footprint in three dimensions.

  5. Front shell + entry porch
    Stage 05

    Front shell + entry porch

Front shell sheathed in OSB and the gable entry porch framed. The silhouette of the finished home becomes legible from the street.

  6. Side elevation + window openings
    Stage 06

    Side elevation + window openings

Side wall fully sheathed with window openings cut. Framer at the corner reviewing layout. Lead carpenter on site for scale.

  7. Roof rafters toward the lake
    Stage 07

    Roof rafters toward the lake

Roof rafters step out toward Lake Washington. Every diagonal aimed at the view that defines this site.

  8. Covered deck framing
    Stage 08

    Covered deck framing

Covered deck framing under construction. Joists in place and posts ready for cladding. The future second living room takes shape off the back.

  9. Roof underlayment
    Stage 09

    Roof underlayment

Roof underlayment wrapped tight across the new ridge. Weather-tight before shingles. The house can now stand up to the rain while interior work begins.

  10. Architectural shingles + golden hour
    Stage 10

    Architectural shingles + golden hour

Architectural shingles installed, attic vents set. Lake horizon at golden hour from the ridgeline. The roof is done.

  11. Hardie lap siding install
    Stage 11

    Hardie lap siding install

White lap siding going on the side elevation. Painter on the ladder cutting in around windows. The exterior gets its final look.

  12. Lake-view deck, mid-finish
    Stage 12

    Lake-view deck, mid-finish

Cantilevered upper deck with cable rail still wrapped in protective film. Cedar soffit visible. Interior finish work continues below. This is roughly where the project stands today.
